Newsletter 3 – 27th November 2017

Dear Parents / Carers,

With only three weeks left of this term and Christmas festivities fast approaching, I would like to inform you of all the up-coming events and arrangements for the end of term.  Could I also ask, as it is now dark at the end of the day, that you take even greater care when using the turning circle.

Children in Need 2017  A huge thank you to all those who donated money for this event, organised by our School Council. We had a really good day, seeing the children all dressed up in their ‘strictly famous’ costumes and all the fabulous and original ideas! In the afternoon, the staff entertained the children by performing dances in their teams (some more strictly perfect than others). The school council voted and the overall winners were the lower juniors with their performance of Steps 5,6,7,8. We all had great fun and raised £588.02 for this very worthy cause. Thanks also for a huge donation from Karter Pollard’s Mum, from her work colleagues.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal  Once again, thank you for your donations to this vital charity. We collected £105.55, for which the local representative was very grateful.

PSA Gift Emporium  This wonderful opportunity for the children to buy presents for all the family is being held on Friday 1st December, in the hall from 1.15pm. If you wish your child to take part, please send money in a named purse and a named carrrier bag. All the gifts are £1.50. Younger children will have personal shoppers to help them!

Carols for Charity This year we are donating the money from ticket sales to Aid2Gambia. This is a small charity based in Nottinghamshire, who gratefully received all our old tables and chairs in the summer. They were taken to The Gambia, to be used to help children attend school. They also take school uniforms and school shoes, as many children can’t attend school if they don’t have these. From 1st December there will be a box in the entrance for you to donate any shoes that you may have and any old school uniform, which will be sorted by the PSA for our nearly new stall and for the charity. Many thanks for any donations, I know they will make a real difference. Details can be found at www.Aid2Gambia.org

Coffee and Carols 15th December Everyone is invited to pop in for coffee and a mince pie from 9.45am until 11.15am, and to hear the choir and instrumentalist play and sing carols. This year all the money raised from donations will go towards developing music-making and provision within the school. Good luck to the choir who are performing in Derby at the INTU centre, on Tuesday 28th November, in a carol competition.

Christmas Nativities and Productions Very soon the school will be overrun by stars, angels and camels, as we prepare for our Christmas shows. Tickets are now on sale from the office, and I look forward to welcoming you to the performances in December.

Christmas Parties 2017 You will receive a separate letter outlining the details for the Junior and Infant/EYFs party day which to be held on Monday 18th December. On that day all children can wear their own (party) clothes to school. Infant children will have party games in the morning followed by a picnic lunch and a special visitor in the afternoon. Juniors will have a trip to the cinema followed by a picnic lunch and party games in the afternoon. My thanks to the PSA for their support with these events. To top off the day –it is the school disco in the evening.

School ends for this term on Tuesday 19th December 2017. We return on Wednesday 3rd January 2018.

My very best wishes to you all for a wonderful, healthy and peaceful Christmas and I look forward to seeing you at one of the Christmas events.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Palmer-Coole
